About the Erlas Victorian Walled Garden
The Erlas Victorian Walled Garden is a company registered in England and Wales
Company No: 6732314 - Reg. Office : Bryn Estyn Road, Wrexham. LL13 9TY
The aim of the Erlas Victorian Walled Garden Project is to provide accredited training and work experience in horticulture to people with learning disabilities. In the process, the restoration and enhancement of the Victorian Walled Garden will take place.
Prior to the start of the project in 2001, the gardens had been abandoned for decades apart from a brief period of revival during a previous ESF (European Social Fund) project.
Now the garden is returning to its former glory, due to all the hard work of the people involved.
Here you can see the artist’s impressions from 2003/2004 of our vision of the completed gardens
. These pictures are close to how the gardens now look due to funding from The Rural Development Fund for Wales and The Morgan Foundation. However, the development of the site is not finished, as we want to further develop the old orchard and improve other areas around the gardens.
Our hope is that this project will provide a means for many people to gain skills and confidence enabling them to take up employment (either voluntary or paid).
We also see the gardens as making a contribution to the wider community. Now the restoration and rebuilding of the walls, buildings and greenhouses are complete, units could be available for the sale of produce and crafts. Opening the site to the public as an educational, cultural and recreational amenity is our eventual aim.
